This program is responsible for the inspection of various types of Mobile Food
Preparation Units (MFPU), Mobile Food Facilities (MFF) and Independent Wholesale
Delivery Vehicles. In addition, Vehicle Inspection Program conducts inspection of
commissaries and other approved facilities associated with the servicing and storing
of MFF and MFPU.
DEFINITIONS
- Mobile Food Facility (MFF) refer to any conveyance used in conjunction with the
service of a commissary or other approved facility upon which prepackaged food or
approved non-prepackaged food is sold or offered for sale at retail.
- Mobile Food Preparation Unit (MFPU) include any mobile food facility or portable
food service unit that is used in conjunction with the service of a commissary or
other approved facility upon which food is prepared for service, sale, or
distribution at retail.
- Mobile Support Unit (MSU) refers to a vehicle, used in conjunction with a
commissary, that travels to, and services mobile food facilities as needed to
replenish supplies, including food and potable water, clean the interior of the unit,
or dispose of liquid or solid wastes.
"Commissary" refers to a food establishment in which food, containers, equipment, or
supplies are stored or handled, food is prepared or prepackaged for sale or service
at other locations, utensils are cleaned, liquid or solid wastes are disposed of, or
potable water is obtained, for use in mobile food facilities, mobile food preparation
units, stationary mobile food preparation units, or vending machines.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SERVICES
- Conduct headquarter, commissary and field inspections of MFF, MFPU and Independent Wholesale Delivery Vehicle to ensure compliance with structural requirements, and approved food handling techniques as mandated by California Uniform Retail Food Facilities Law (CURFFL) and Title 11 Health and Safety Code. In addition, Vehicle Inspection Program inspects commissaries and other approved servicing facilities.
- Investigate citizen complaints regarding all Mobile Food Facilities, commissaries, and other approved food facilities.
- Review plans for new MFF, MFPU and commissaries and issue final approval prior to commencing operation. In addition, MFF & MFPU manufacturers are consulted to ensure proper construction and compliance with CURFFL.
- Conduct sweeps of illegal street food vendor.
